Four questions

Williamsport 50501 is about creating community and supporting each other. Here are four questions to think through about how you can be part of the kind of community we want to build.

At the October 11, 2025, public meeting, we talked about the mission of Williamsport 50501. Our two "OG" original organizers shared their "why" for what led them to be part of creating this organization and getting us going.

This prompted us to break out into discussion groups and ask as individuals what are our own answers to the following four questions:

What do you need?

We want to know what it is in our community where people lack or need help. This starts with those of us who are showing up. What are the things that you need others to come along side you to help with?

There are those who need help with food or housing or transportation. Some need help with medical care or household chores. Some are looking for employment. We also heard about those who need friendship and community. Those who need a way to direct their passions and emotions.

Needs come in a variety of shapes and sizes. What are yours?

What can you help with?

Like needs, skills and abilities come in all kinds of shapes and sizes as well. Some have financial means to share with others. Some have vehicles and spare time they can use to get people from one place to another. Some can write letters. Our volunteer page has a list of just some examples of the kinds of things that people can step up and do. But it's not an exhaustive list.

Maybe you can help with gardening or cooking meals. Maybe you can help with safety at our events. Maybe you're good with a cell phone camera and can post pictures of the goings on around our area. Maybe you can post to your audience on a social media platform. Maybe you are a dreamer that can help drive ideas that we can come together as groups of people to help move us forward.

What do you have to offer to the others you live among? There's nothing too small or mundane, nothing to grandiose or large to benefit the community we live in.

What is the Williamsport you want to see?

By Williamsport, we mean our larger area, not a particular municipality.

When you are out and about, what kinds of things do you see that you want to see improved? What are the problems you know about that need addressing? What would a truly great Williamsport be that would really make you and the people near and dear to you really thrive by being here?

Don't hold back in your dreaming, either. Don't let yourself fall into the trap of "that can never happen here." Because the truth is, we can make our home town whatever it is we want it to be. But we can't make something we can't dream or imagine at all.

So, what's the Williamsport area you want to see?

What's you why?

We are a volunteer group that exists to help lift up and support our community and our neighbors. But we are just that: volunteers.

You don't have to show up to our meetings or to our events. You don't have to be reading the words on this website. But here you are.

Why?

What is it you want to accomplish or see or achieve by investing your time and your energy with us? What keeps you showing up?
